After graduating with honors from high school in Bissau and taking a six-month preparatory course, Ribna Fernando Dafa began his studies at the Instituto Polit\u00e9cnico in the Portuguese city of Beja in summer 2019.  He originally wanted to become an IT engineer, then he decided on social sciences. The initial optimism was thwarted early on by the painful experience of not being able to keep up in Portuguese, the local language - the native language for most students here, but a foreign language for Ribna. Ribna invested a year to catch up - with the success of making it on schedule to the longed-for exam. He describes his thanks and his plans for the future in a moving letter.
